Wellness Resources to Aid with Health

Written by OnSite | Jul 21, 2020 2:00:00 PM

During these unprecedented times of a global health crisis we are focusing on a different dimension of wellness each week.  Last week on the wellness portal we focused on physical wellness with the Flex Time personal challenge, encouraging individuals to stretch for 100 minutes over the course of the month (next 30 days).  If you did not sign up last week it is not too late.  Please visit the wellness portal and sign up to aid with overall wellness and relaxation moving into the coming weeks.

This week the focus shifts to social wellness.  The personal challenge being highlighted is 5 Questions, which will lead individuals to having 30 question based conversations over the course of a month.  How will this occur?  The challenge encourages individuals to ask five or more questions of someone each day over the month (next 30 days).  During this time of shelter in place and social isolation this challenge will aid you in continuing to stay connected with individuals (family and friends) outside of your household.  In doing so one can continue to build and enhance current relationships.  You can utilize various forms of media which may include a simple phone call, or perhaps facetime, google duo or zoom are other options to provide the face to face interactions as well.

Social Wellness

  • What is it? How we interact with others.  Can aid with support during difficult times.
  • Why is it important? Allows one to build healthy, nurturing and supportive relationships.  Positive social network improves self-esteem (comfortable with who you are), enables one to create boundaries and encourage deliberate communication, trust and conflict management.  Good social wellness critical to emotional resilience.
  • You have the power to enhance personal relationships.  There are many ways to begin your journey to social wellness such as:
    • Reflect on your own social needs.
    • What aspects of your social life do you enjoy?  How could it be improved?
    • Make an effort to keep in touch with supportive friends and family.
    • Participate in group discussions and practice active listening
    • Join club or organization (I understand that at this time that may be difficult, however, there are online options of book clubs/etc.)

Please join the challenge to aid with your social health during this time! If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to reach out and ask.
